Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis 2025 goes to Sarah Jäger

On October 17, during the Frankfurt Book Fair, the winners of this year’s Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis were announced.
In the Young Adult Books category, our author Sarah Jäger won the prize for her novel Und die Welt, sie fliegt hoch 
(Fischer Sauerländer / Rotfuchs). 

From the jury’s statement:

Ava and Juri’s powerful conversation unfolds across eleven chapters that run in reverse, as if marking down the remaining days of summer vacation. The fourteen-year-olds are sitting in their rooms instead of by the pool. Ava, because she’s grounded and isn’t allowed to go out. Juri, because panic attacks torment him. The two grow closer, word by word, message by message, even beyond the confines of their rooms.
In a world where being young can be very complicated, Ava and Juri find mutual support and the security they need to persevere and move forward. Like a dynamic game of ping-pong, Sarah Jäger weaves a finely crafted dialogue, and Sarah Maus’s eloquent illustrations paint a moving portrait of their growing closeness.
